(More customer reviews)We live on a farm and have 8 cats. I've used Hartz Ultra Guard Reflecting Flea & Tick Collars on our cats for many years. They work well for the heavily wooded area we live in and zero of my cats have ever had any kind of bad reaction to the collars. And they are reasonably priced and last 7 months through the whole flea and tick season.

Thousands of cat and kitten injuries and deaths have been reported to the EPA, the regulatory agency that has oversight over these topical spot-on pesticide products. The EPA issued a Public Advisory on May 7, 2009, advising additional scrutiny over these pesticide ingredient products because of the tremendous spike in reported animal injuries and deaths.Hartz's cat and kitten products were among the original list that contributed to the vast majority of incidents reported to the EPA.The EPA issued a Cancellation Order in 2005 on Hartz's cat and kitten products, which contained precisely the same ingredients in exactly the same volumes as their current dog/puppy products. They have not yet taken the same action on Hartz's dog products but, again, thousands of incidents have been reported, including deaths of animals. Please use safer alternatives. They are available. Speak with your vet. He or she can give you much safer recommendations. If you cannot afford the products the vets sell, I have learned that most veterinarians will help with the price if you will avoid using theseneurotoxin, pesticide products. Please be careful. I've had my own experience with Hartz's products and it was a nightmare.

(More customer reviews)I recently used this to solve a flea problem in my home. It worked exactly as promised. I have used Hartz products before and this one did the trick. I looked online and there is low risk to humans and is relatively safe. There are known problems with cold blooded pets like fish and reptiles. I dont have any cold blooded pets so this was a good solution for me. I will use it again in the future if I ever have a flea problem.

(More customer reviews)We used this product on our two cats after we discovered fleas on them.Within an hour, both cats were vomiting and drooling due to pyrethroid poisoning.Hartz Ultraguard Flea and Tick Dip for Dogs and Cats contains Pyrethrin, which is derived from Chrysanthemums.Interestingly, Chrysanthemums are toxic to cats.
If we had not washed our cats to remove the dip from their skin and coats, they most likely would not have survived the night without emergency veterinary care.
Please research before using this product, or any other Hartz product.Hartz products have a record of being dangerous for cats, and the company seems to not be concerned about the scores of animals that have been injured or killed after their products were used.
Be aware, there are even websites started by consumers who consider their pets to be victims of poisoning after using Hartz products.Just do a quick web search on Hartz victims and you'll find it.
